909019
(a cyborg ballad)
January 1999
In 909019
cities were so tall
we used to move upwards
like little spiders on a wall
with many things to do
and a few friends to call
I spent the weekend collecting
old machinery and crayons
in 909019
I bought a little cyborg
a special kind of machine
that sings like a lovebird
now he sleeps with me at night
and wakes me with a chord
he delights my life every time I’m bored
lovebird my dear it seems so clear now
that I needed understanding
I dreamed alone making some space around
and waited to see you landing
eh! please sing one song for me and stay
closer so I can hear you
eh! don’t fly away from me and stay
closer so I can sing too
so in 909019
we could really close our eyes
and entrust our simple feelings
to a digital device
an artificial flower smelt like a rose
and boys could smile for hours
to their artificial girls
oh God my dear it seems so clear now
that I needed understanding
I dreamed alone making some space around
and waited to see you landing
eh! please sing one song for me and stay
closer so I can hear you
eh! don’t fly away from me and stay
closer so I can sing too.
